FLOWER MOUNTAIN
As we became part of the Chichicastenango community, we perceived a need for a place that could serve to provide a continuum of care options for orphans and support for families. In 2008 God gave us such a place and it is called Monte Flor, or Flower Mountain, the name this land has possessed as long as locals can remember.
Monte Flor is a place of hope. It is an icon of a new and different way.
For generations the people of Chichcastenango have faced spiritual, social and political obstacles that prevent them from realizing freedom and independence. The most obvious victims are children and women, many of them widows from a long and devastating civil war.
Monte Flor is a sixty acre complex located just outside the city of Chichicastenango. The works of Monte Flor will embody a community-centric approach to providing care, spiritual guidance, education and resources that facilitate the health and independence of local families and communities.
The development of Monte Flor began with the purchase and preparation of the land in 2008. In 2009-2010 building of facilities began to care for orphans and widows and implementing programs in community health and education.
